Stefan Berger is a Swedish visual artist whose work moves between painting and drawing. His practice has developed at the intersection of image, literature and theatre, and in close relation to the contexts in which the works have been exhibited.

Drawing functions not only as a medium but as a way of thinking, closely connected to the development of his paintings. His work returns to recurring figures, literary and mythological references, and existential questions, often through motifs that change and acquire new meanings over time.

Berger has exhibited at the Åland Art Museum, the Museum of Drawing in Laholm and Edsvik Konsthall. His work has also been included in major international projects, among them The Drawing Project, presented at the Frost Art Museum in Miami, and he has participated in exhibitions and biennials in Europe and the United States.

Berger has maintained a long-standing relationship with the OSTEN Biennial in Skopje. He has received several awards at the Biennial, including the Biennial First Prize in 2011, the Golden OSTEN in 2010, and the First Prize for Theme in 2009. His work has also been shown at the National Gallery of North Macedonia in connection with the OSTEN Biennial.

Following extensive exhibition activity from the 1990s into the 2010s, Berger devoted many years to a deepening of his practice, during which earlier motifs and experiences continued to reappear in new contexts and forms.

In his current work, Berger continues to develop a visual world that has evolved over a long period of time, where personal experience meets literary and mythological narratives. The motifs return, shift and acquire new meanings.
