En framstående tysk målare talade apropå sin retrospektiva utställning om traumat runt andra världskriget och vad det gjort med hans konst och med Tyskland. Då tänker jag, om tyskarna har andra världskriget heter väl vårt trauma FOLKHEMMET. Varifrån kommer annars det svenska deckarundret? Exporten har gjort att t.o.m. våra politiker börjar bekymra sig för Sverigebilden utomlands.

Folkhemmet, symbolen för det lyckade landet, den svenska modellen och världens bästa land, i denna idyll finns det ett brott, ett sönderfall, förmedlat i en bild av dubbelhet.När jag var yngre var tanken på folkhemmet närmast bisarr men med en tilltagande ålder ter den sig mer och mer förbryllande . Hur såg brottet ut? Och vem var egentligen den skyldige?

Mina arbeten är det forum där jag vrider och vänder och försöker komma underfund med vad som hände i rummen jag växte upp – egentligen? Berättelser utan linjär kronologi, ett inre arbete om vår plats i folkhemmet.

Stefan Berger har de senaste åren belönats med flera internationella utmärkelser, bla. 3 priser  vid World Gallery of Drawing , Skopje, (där Konstnären Christo i år tilldelas Grand Prix).Ett flertal utställningar internationellt, nu senast på utställningen Swedish Art på  MHER International Culture Centre , Escondio USA, C4RD Online tävling i samarbete med the Royal Academy of Arts i London,  tilldelats Honorary certificate of highest quality” vid International Biennal of Drawing i Plzen Tjeckien samt ett flertal utställningar i bla  Holland, Grekland och Tyskland. Stefan Berger är född i Bottna Bohuslän och det här är hans första utställning i Göteborg.

A prominent German painter spoke apropos of his retrospective exhibition of trauma around the Second World War and what it did with his art and with Germany. Then I thought, if the Germans have World War II, our trauma should have the name, FOLKHEMMET (the Swedish model). From where does the Swedish detective miracle otherwise come? Exports have done that even our politicians begin to worry about the image of Sweden abroad.

Folkhemmet (the Swedish model) , symbol of the success of the country, the Swedish model and the world’s best country, in this idyllic setting, there is a crime, a decay, conveyed an image of duality.
When I was younger, the idea of ​​the Swedish model was almost bizarre, but with increasing age the idea is more and more puzzling. How did the crime look like? And who was really the
perpetrators?
My work is the forum where I toss and turn, trying to figure out what happened in the room I grew up? Stories without a linear chronology, an inner work on our place in Swedish model.
